Local structure and Raman vibrational spectra of doped tellurite classes

Tellurite glasses possess properties of great interest for optical applications, the primary ones being high transparency and high indices of refraction, both linear and nonlinear. The best optical TeO2 glasses are those containing Na2O and ZnO. Using the combination of X-ray photoelectron and Raman spectroscopies, we have investigated a series of Na2O-ZnO-TeO2 glasses of different compositions. This combination allows the determination of the "molecular" units present in the glass as well as their arrangement in the network. These results can then be correlated with the optical properties.
