摘要:
Various studies around the world have looked at different aspects of girl students' schooling outcome and the issue of dropout. The objective of this review is to find the extent to which previous studies have addressed the issue of girl students' dropout in Nepal and other parts of the world. A structured search strategy involved first formulating the key words and word combinations, then selecting the databases and search engines, followed by step by step screening. Out of 3,308 titles, 278 were found to have the words and phrases that seemed relevant on first sight. The figure came down to 56 when the abstracts were studied. Reading the full texts of the studies and avoiding repetition among different search engines twenty-four studies met the inclusion criteria (see 2.2). The studies explored diverse aspects of the school system as well as socio-cultural aspects in relation to students' school retention and likelihood of dropout. The findings show that both within-school factors and socio-cultural factors significantly contribute to school dropout. The gap in the current body of literature is that not any study explores the effect of educational factors on female students' school retention or dropout in the context of Nepal.
