Local structure of Fe100-xCux nanoalloys from the analysis of their X-ray absorption spectra

The local structure of the Fe100-xCux nanoalloys is studied by analyzing the X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES). The experimental spectra of the X-ray absorption near the K-edges of copper and iron in the Fe100-xCux nanoalloys (x = 0, 10, 20,40, 60, 70, 80, and 100) were obtained using synchrotron radiation. The K-edges of iron and copper in Fe100-xCux were analyzed theoretically on the basis of the method of full multiple scattering in the real space. The local geometry of the iron and copper environment in the Fe100-xCux alloys (x = 10 and 20) was determined by comparing the experimental and corresponding theoretical spectra calculated for different structural models. It is shown that the Fe100-xCux alloys at x = 10 and 20 have homogeneous bcc structures. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
