Development of Reference Material for Graphite Analyses in Cast Iron. The comparability of quantitative image analyses that are performed in industrial laboratories may be restricted due to different equipment used, different software algorithms, varying approaches to specimen preparation and also differences in the level of vocational training of personnel. It may therefore be desirable to contemplate using reference materials for the calibration of the entire analytical system, as is usual in the field of chemical analysis for quite some time now. It is of great importance that reference materials are very homogeneous. In the case of metallic alloys and cast alloys in particular, this demand for homogeneity cannot easily be met. In this paper, an approach to produce reference material for quantitative image analyses of spheroidal graphite in EN-GJS-400-15 is proposed.
