Lab findings predictors of activity among patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosusisanautoimmunediseasewith a complexaetiology. Clinicalcriteriafor SLEDAI activityrelyonlaboratorydeterminationsforitsinterpretation. Objective:toidentifyvariations in laboratoryparameterspredictiveofflares in patientswithsystemic lupus erythematosus. Methods: a retrospectivecohortstudywasperformedbetweentheyears 2015 to 2020. Thirty-sixrecordsof 22 patientsof a hospital centre whomettheinclusioncriteria, wereselected. The variables werearranged in groups, epidemiological and clinical variables, personal pathologicalhistory and laboratory test results. StatisticalanalysiswasperformedusingtheStatisticalPackageforthe Social Sciencesprocessing software. Results:female sex predominated (90 %) alongwithmixed skin colour (59.1 %). Bodymassindexofferedsignificantdifferencesbetween active and non-active lupus (p=0.003). Lowerweight (p=0.008), decreasedlevelsof plasma albumin (p=0.002), hemoglobin (p=0.000) and hematocrit (p=0.002) wererelatedtoperiodsofactivity. Otherparameterswith a constantincrease and predictivevaluewereglobulinlevels (p=0.053) and erythrocytesedimentationrate (p=0.000). Thealbumin/globulin ratio offered a sharpdifferencebetweenexacerbations and remissions (p=0.002). Conclusions:theinvertedalbuminglobulinindex, lowhaemoglobinlevels, weightreduction and higherythrocytesedimentationratehave a highpredictivevalue in exacerbationsofsystemic lupus erythematosus.
