Some possible uses of zeolite interfaces in the area of small- and micro-scale applications are examined in this overview. Among the examples discussed are the removal of pollutants present in air at trace concentration levels, catalyst recovery in homogeneously catalysed reactions, zeolite-containing microreactors and miniature gas sensors with enhanced selectivity. In the opinion of the authors of this overview, the best opportunities for the industrial implementation of zeolite membranes and films in the near future will arise in the fields of small- and micro-scale applications, rather than in large-scale processes.
