Determination of electronic parameters of ZnO by nonlinear spectroscopy

Using two-photon excitation spectroscopy and three-photon difference frequency generation, exciton energies and oscillator strengths of the A(Gamma(5)), B(Gamma(5)), C(Gamma(1)), and A(Gamma(1)) 1S excitons of ZnO are measured. By the analysis of the eigenenergies and eigenvectors in a 12 x 12 Hamilton matrix scheme, the crystal-field splitting, spin-orbit parameters, analytical exchange, and the ratio of the dipole operator matrix elements for eigenstates with l direction perpendicular and parallel to the c axis are determined.
