In situ study of soft matter with atomic force microscopy and light scattering

摘要
We present the results of a morphological and structural study of a stable colloidal dispersion of two liquid crystal phases of cubic and hexagonal structure. The study was made with an atomic force microscope operated in situ and with dynamic and static light scattering. The results obtained with the three techniques are in good agreement with each other and with previous studies. In situ imaging makes it possible to directly observe possible structural modifications of the particle's morphology as a consequence of in situ addition of polymers, enzymes, salts, etc., to the dispersion. Light scattering can be consequently used to confirm and strengthen these results.
