Blue Emission of Eu2+ Doped LaMgAl11O19 Phosphor Prepared by Combustion Synthesis Method

Blue-emitting phosphor LaMgAl11O19:Eu2+ has been synthesized successfully at 500 degrees C by one step combustion synthesis method. The as-synthesized materials were characterized by powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) techniques. Upon 365 nm excitation, emission spectra of the LaMgAl11O19:Eu2+ phosphors show a blue band at 450 nm. The excitation spectra corresponding to 4f(7)-4f(6)5d transition of Eu2+ cover the spectral range of 280-430 nm. The concentration quenching of Eu2+ in the LaMgAl11O19 host was determined to be 3 mol%. The CIE chromaticity of LAM:Eu2+ phosphors was compared with the commercial BAM.
