FIELD OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND UNEMPLOYMENT RISK IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

We examine how the structure of higher education system and labour market policies influence the risk of unemployment of an individual with higher education in 26 European countries. Particular attention is paid to the effects of the country-level characteristics on the labour-market performance of graduates of different fields of study. We separately study unemployment periods of at least three months and at least one year. According to our findings, country-level indicators affect the employment prospects of graduates of most fields of study in the same direction.
