摘要
Transient temperature changes occur in the chip root during intermittent cutting such as milling. Based on the examinations of Salomon and one of our previous study, a mathematical model that is suitable for the description of the fast and massive changes of temperature was elaborated. The model was validated by measurements discussed in literature and by a specific cutting examination. It was proven that the maximum temperature within a cycle increases only up to a certain point, then it starts to decrease if strong cooling is applied during the increase of cutting speed. This may also be true for the fluctuation of temperature in general, without cooling; however, in other cases, the development of this phenomenon depends on the actual specifications of the used technology at the maximum temperature.
