Influence of particle cleavage on the creep behaviour of metal matrix composites

摘要
The creep behaviour of particle reinforced aluminum alloy 6061 was investigated using experimental and numerical techniques. Uniaxial creep tests were carried our in order to describe the influence of particles on the creep properties. Damage was quantified by combining interrupted creep tests with SEM investigations. A finite element model based on a viscoplastic material law was used to simulate the time dependent behaviour of the metal matrix. The composite was modelled by a two phase model assuming elastic behavior of particles and plastic matrix behaviour. Particle damage due to cleavage was explicitly simulated.
