This paper presents a diagnosis of investigative progress in strategic management. In addition, special emphasis is placed on the degree of development reached internally by the principal Spanish journals. On the one hand, we evaluate the extent to which the situation for Spanish publications is comparable to that of Continental European countries. On the other hand, we consider the distance separating Spain from Anglo-Saxon countries, the leaders in strategic investigation for many years. In the first case, France and Holland serve as examples, and in the second the USA and the United Kingdom. It has been found that the Anglo-Saxon countries -above all the USA-are the ones that head strategic investigation, both in terms of the amplitude and diversity of their distribution media as well as rigor in the publications themselves. Thus, it is logical that these two countries enjoy a well-recognized forum at international level in this field of investigation. In Continental Europe it is noticeable the position held by Holland.
