Friction-induced bridging effects caused by the T-stress

摘要
The R-curve behaviour of ceramic materials is often caused by friction-induced bridging effects between the crack faces. The related bridging stresses are commonly assumed to be material specific properties. It will be shown in this paper that the bridging stress relation depends on the specimen geometry and the loading mode. The reason for this behaviour is the x-stress component caused by the crack itself. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
