Water quality simulation in an urban drainage catchment

The article addresses water quality problems in urban drainage networks during rainfall events. The article examines data regarding the concentration of suspended solids measured in the Fossolo catchment in Bologna, as well as the simulation model adopted, the values of the parameters and the calibration constants. The model provides a good reconstruction of the trend in the concentration of suspended solids for the events available and makes it possible to estimate the trend in their total mass flowing in the final conduit from the start of the rainfall event. This is of primary importance for network design activities.
