摘要
The crack tip stress-strain behavior and the effect of small loads superposed upon the major cycle ΔP on the crack growth rate were studied for A537 steel in the fatigue process. The speckle interferometry was used to measure the crack tip strain and crack opening displacement in different loading stages. Crack tip strain showed a nonlinear relationship with the square of applied load because of the presence of crack closure in the fatigue loading process. The plastic deformation was a measurement of the damage of small loads and was a reliable criterion for omission of small cycles of fatigue life assessment. If the plastic deformation in small cycles was close to zero, the crack growth rate will not be affected.
