Glass transition temperature in thin polymer films determined by thermal discharge in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

摘要
The glass transition temperature dynamics in thin polystyrene films was investigated using a X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The glass transition was monitored through the concomitant discharge of the polymer film due to disorientation of the dipoles by the motion of main chain segments. The discharge is also partly due to the self-motion of space charges. The self-motion of space charges is followed by recombination with thermally generated carriers at high temperatures, which leads to the change in electrical conductivity.
