R-curve behavior of tic particle reinforced Al2O3 composites

摘要
TiC particle size plays an important role in improving fracture toughness of the Al2O3-30wt%TiC composites. The composites having small TiC particles exhibit flat R-curve behavior and have fracture toughness similar to that of the Al2O3 matrix. Adding large TiC particles in Al2O3 matrix makes the resultant composite possess a rising R-curve behavior and the fracture toughness of the composite increases with increasing TiC particle size.
