The deformation and recrystallization of particle-containing single crystals

Al-Si crystals of orientation {011} [100] and {011} [01(1) over bar] containing second-phase particles have been deformed in channel die compression and annealed, and their behaviour compared with previous work on {001}[110] crystals. Recrystallization occurs by PSN which generates a broad texture spread, and there is evidence that all grains in the crystals originate by this mechanism. It is found that after lower strains, grains related to the deformed matrix by certain orientation relationships, particularly 40-50 degrees [111] or 20-25 degrees [uv0], grow much faster than other grains.
