Tracheal diverticula in cases of bronchial asthma

Tracheal diverticulum (TD) is an outpouching of the tracheal wall and usually projects to the right side of thoracic inlet. It belongs to a larger group of paratracheal air collections (PTACs). It can be congenital or acquired, single or multiple. It is usually asymptomatic but can lead to symptoms such as chronic cough and repeated upper respiratory tract infections. Chronic cough can also cause increased intraluminal pressure which can then lead to development of diverticulum. Here we present two cases of bronchial asthma who had chronic cough and were later found to have tracheal diverticulum.
