摘要
A loss of short-term memory and verbal fluency is often among first signs of the Alzheimer's disease (AD). The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of NADH treatment on memory and verbal fluency. This was a six-months, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study. AD patients with MMSE between 10 and 25 were included. We compared results of Mattis Dementia Rating Scale (MDRS), Hopkins Verbal Learning Test and the Verbal Fluency Test performed at the baseline and after six months of treatment. We enrolled 48 patients, median age of 69 years. After six months of treatment NADH group showed improvement in Verbal Fluency Test for 3.5 words per minute, while placebo group experienced decrease for 0.5 words per minute (p=0.05). Similar result revealed verbal fluency testing included in MDRS (p<0.05). Memory testing also revealed results for the benefit of the NADH treatment, but they weren't statistically significant (Hopkins Verbal Learriing Test, p>0.05; MDRS, p>0.05). During the NADH treatment greater influence on verbal fluency than on memory was observed.
