Singularities of spectral-brightness characteristics of pulsed radiating surface discharges in dense gases

Based on numerical simulation, analysis is performed of the effect of light-erosion vapors of an interelectrode insert on the spectral-brightness characteristics of pulsed radiating surface discharges (SD) in argon under normal conditions. It is shown that light-erosion vapors affect considerably the dynamic structure of discharge plasma: they change the thermodynamic and optical properties of the gas region and provide for generation of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The ranges of variation of power parameters are determined, at which the light yield of UV-radiation and maximum brightness temperatures of SD may exceed similar characteristics of open discharges in the basic stage of energy supply into the discharge plasma.
