摘要
A mathematical model is developed for predicting the vibration behavior of windshield wipers by computer simulation. The objective is to define the essential parameters that relate the wiper blade movement to the input rotation of the drive mechanism at the base of the wiper arm. Development of the computer model was guided by measurements of overall vibration performance on an actual GM vehicle. This vehicle was also used for experimentally determining the important parameters such as wiper arm and blade inertia and stiffness properties, blade to glass friction, blade forces, joint backlash and drive input rotation cycle. Actual blade vibration during operation on the vehicle is compared to predicted values during a typical cycle for a wet, light sprayed and dry windshield. Recommendations for improving the vibration performance of wipers, including the use of a mass damper, are discussed.
