THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS ANDTHE BANKING SECTOR

This paper tries to highlight the impact of the international economic and financial crisis on the banking system in central and eastern EU member countries responding to the exceptional conditions and systemic risks of the crisis on the banking sector, showing, also, the economic implications of the member states on the current economic crises. The present financial crisis was able to influence the structure of present banking system and we are witnesses to a number of changes in banking activities. Was necessary to strengthen resilience to shocks on the banking sector, so regulatory and supervisory authorities are established in order to developed appropriate techniques and instruments, including procedures to resolve the situation of banks whose business it is considered that can affect the functioning of the whole financial system. The increase of banking competition, especially on the side of attracting resources, processes, mergers and acquisitions, bank failures, changes in the regulation and banking supervision are factors that will continue to be present more intensely in the banking systems. Also, the current international financial crisis will be found on the fundamental trends of the future banking.
