Management of bone loss in patients with Gaucher disease

Osteoarticular manifestations are often inaugural and contribute much of the morbidity and disability associated with Gaucher disease. Many studies report a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD). Few data are available on the epidemiology of fractures in Gaucher disease but the risk of fracture seems to be low. BMD measurement by DXA at the diagnosis is useful to measure the bone involvement. The monitoring of bone loss by DXA is possible in patients with Gaucher disease and BMD con be performed every 2-3 years in patient with osteopenia or osteoporosis.
