This paper outlines the progress of installation of new water meters for individual housing units in Osaka City. the results of a survey conducted in recent years in the same city concerning the introduction of an automatic meter reading system into apartment buildings, and the progress of a study of joint operation of an automatic meter reading system by the Waterworks Bureau and a gas utility company.
