摘要
This article maps the presence of capital punishment in Baudelaire. It locates and dates the occurrences of the death penalty and its imaginaire, by identifying, first, this nebula in portraits of the author himself, various unfinished projects, and prose texts. Secondly, Baudelaire's poems are shown to explore the aesthetic, moral, anthropological and symbolic ramifications of lethal justice. Thirdly, his provocative defense of State killing in prose fragments and Mon Coeur mis a nu is examined. This cartography finally turns to the integration of Baudelaire's 'capital imaginary' into the history of his works, his conception of them, and his self-representation.
