Strong electric fields promote oriented intercalative polymerization of pyrrole inside the lamellar matrices of vanadium pentoxide

摘要
The effect of strong electric fields (e.g., 3.4 kV/m) in the 110 plane direction, in the conductivity of the V2O5 . nH(2)O xerogel (also known as VXG) and in the intercalative redox polymerization of pyrrole in the VXG matrices has been investigated. The resulting poly(pyrrole) nanocomposites exhibited electric anisotropy in the 100 and 010 crystallographic directions. Photomicrographies of such materials revealed that the polymer fibers tend to orient themselves along the applied field. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
