Apres Le Deluge, C'est moi

This paper is basically intended for the companies that have already started their AM/FM/GIS project and are planning for the transitional period upon completion. From an end-user's perspective, it will present the challenges that arose during the start-up phase and how HECo has (and has not) fared. During project development, we had a consultant on board to help us with the initial planning, specifications, vendor selection digitizing, and QA/QC. Now that the project is installed, however, all the consultants and vendors are gone, and we're now left on our own to struggle with this new technology. As the division head for HECo's Mapping and Records Division, I now find myself as a principal end-user with the charge of now having to prove out all those benefits I promised 6 years ago as the project manager for the original AM/FM design project This paper will discuss the problems of: re-organizing the work flow acquiring adequate manpower backlog buildup training tracking the benefits bringing this new technology into a company that is also trying to face the myriad of other challenges facing all utilities today.
