Micro-hardness and micro-wear measurements on magnetic heads

摘要
Wear of carbon coated sliders during contact start stop testing was measured by monitoring changes in the depths of ion milled "trenches" in the air-bearing surface. Wear was determined as a function of sliding distance and glide height of the media. In addition, nano-hardness measurements were used to characterize the carbon overcoats.
