Food is big business. Food safety becomes a global issue as more and more people travel overseas and come in contact with and demand foreign origin ethnic foods. Food safety, as perceived by one country, may be interpreted as a trade barrier by another. As a result, the international community is trying to establish international standards for food safety and inspection. The application of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system can aid inspection by regulatory authorities and promote international trade by increasing confidence in food safety. The Coder Committee on Food Hygiene recommended that its use should be encouraged.
