摘要
A brief history of KDKA as the pioneer broadcasting station is presented. KDKA was placed in operation on November 2, 1920, and broadcast as the first program the presidential election returns of that date. A broadcast station, in order to best serve the territory in normally covered areas, must have ample power; the quality both of reproduction and of programs must be of the best; and the service must be reliable. Provision should also be made for considerably increasing the power for emergencies or events of national interest. To achieve these conditions, KDKA added new and improved equipment in both the station and the studios.
