The successful implementation of a full-scale fluidized bed bioreactor in Southern California demonstrated how water agencies with limited resources could be biologically treat nitrate- and perchlorate-laden groundwater to meet drinking water standards. A full-scale fluidized bed bioreactor plant engineered by Envirogen Technologies Inc. began treating and producing potable water at the West Valley Water District (WVWD) headquarters located in Rialto, California. Highly contaminated nitrate- and perchlorate-laden water from two groundwater extraction wells located within the water supply boundaries of the WVWD was being treated at the facility to produce potable water that meets both the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Safe Drinking Water Act and state of California requirements. 2017.
