Magnetic properties of ternary silver sulfides AgLnS2 (Ln = rare earths)

摘要
Crystal structures and magnetic properties of ternary silver sulfides AgLnS(2) (Ln = Sm, Gd-Yb) were investigated. All these compounds crystallize in the monoclinic cation-ordered NaCl-type structure (space group: P2(1)). Their magnetic susceptibilities obey the Curie-Weiss law at high temperatures. The effective magnetic moment of the rare earth ion reveals that the rare earth ions are in the trivalent state. The negative Weiss temperatures indicate the existence of the antiferromagnetic interaction in these compounds at low temperatures. Among them, AgGdS2, AgDyS2, AgHoS2 and AgYbS2 show an antiferromagnetic transition at 5.4, 2.0, 3.1 and 6.5 K, respectively.
