Mathematical and numerical models of the preliminary phases of the linear friction welding process

摘要
This work presents results of mathematical and numerical simulations of temperature field development of the contact area during the early stages of LFW. Linear and power law models of pressure distribution in the interface area are developed. The influence of the applied forces geometry on contact pressure is investigated. A mathematical model of heat generation due to the nonlinear process of friction is formed. It is shown, that uneven distribution of contact pressure leads to uneven temperature development in the contact area. The shape of the temperature profile depends on material properties as well, as it is shown in the case of Ti6Al4V and A2024. For the titanium alloy case two temperature maxima develop near the sample edges, being more pronounced as the point of application of the shear force moves far away from the interface. For the aluminum alloy case, there is only one maximum at the center of samples, as it is usually observed in modeling studies. Results of the mathematical model were compared to numerical analyses with ANSYS 14.0, and showed good qualitative agreement.
