Primarily a disease of older men, cancer of the urinary bladder is believed to occur in the setting of an altered urothelium that has a propensity for both synchronous and metachronous tumors. Diagnosis of early-stage disease is performed primarily via crystoscopy. However, after the tumor excapes the bladder wall, radiologic methods such as CT and MR imaging are critical in evaluating local invasion and distant metastasis.
