Luminescence Properties of Dy3+ Ion Doped Magnesium Sulfoborate Crystal for White LED

摘要
The objective of this study is to develop a new luminescence property, from rare earth doped Magnesium sulfoborate, and to apply it for white LED. Magnesium sulfoborate doped with various concentrations of Dy3+ were synthesized by solid-state reaction method at 850 degrees C for 4 hours. The samples were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The excitation and luminescence properties of MgO-SO3-B2O3:Dy3+ are determined. The emission spectrum of Dy3+ ion doped MgO-SO3-B2O3 crystal shows three bands at 480, 573 and 660 nm with excitation of 386 nm due to F-4(9/2)-> H-6(15/2), H-6(13/2) and H-6(11/2) of Dy3+ transitions, respectively. The excitation spectrum of Dy3+ ion doped MgO-SO3-B2O3 shows bands at 347 nm, 362 nm, 386 nm, 426 nm, 449 nm and 469 nm with emission of 573 nm, which is in agreement with the ultraviolet light emitting (349.9 to 410 nm) and blue light emitting (450 to 470 nm). A strong emission peak at 573 nm (yellow) was observed with the concentration of 0.5 Dy2O3 ion. The luminescence properties of phosphor show that MgO-SO3-B2O3:Dy3+ phosphor could be potentially used as white LEDs.
