Intelligent manufacturing - The excuse for using artificial intelligence techniques?

The paper discuss the idea of intelligence in manufacturing and describes some aspects in developing an intelligent software framework. The manufacturing system has been analysed to establish an appropriate form how to implement the artificial intelligence methods. The essence of intelligence in manufacturing and a possible way how to incorporate it in solutions of manufacturing planning and control are considered, too. The scheduling with intelligent agents is explained and illustrated by the multiple processor example.
