Preventive effect of cilostazol on the reduced sciatic nerve blood flow in the streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat

摘要
In this study the effect of chronic cilostazol treatment on the sciatic nerve blood flow of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats was investigated, Nerve blood flow was assessed using laser flowmetry. The results showed that the diabetic group had a significant reduction in nerve blood flow when compared with controls. The chronic cilostazol treatment of diabetic rats significantly improves the deficit in nerve blood flow observed in diabetic rats after 8 weeks of diabetes mellitus and could completely restore the deficit as compared to the control group. It is suggested that cilostazol is a potent vasodilator of rat peripheral nerves, and the treatment of diabetic rats with cilostazol may improve or prevent the changes of nerve blood flow.
