Diaries and memoirs in Spain (mid-18th to mid-19th century)

Although few diaries from the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century have come down to us, there are many memoirs available. Originally written to draw a flattering portrait of their authors for their heirs, they turned into political justifications with the War of Independence becoming the main historical source for a public anxious to understand the events which led to the 1868 crisis and to get a better grasp of those events which played a part in the transition between the Ancien Regime and the age of liberalism in Spain.
