Dependence of the magnetocaloric effect on oxygen stoichiometry in polycrystalline La2/3Ba1/3MnO3-δ

Polycrystalline perovskites La2/3Ba1/3MnO3-delta with different oxygen deficiency delta(0less than or equal todeltaless than or equal to0.10) have been prepared by a modified sol-gel method and their Curie temperatures and magnetocaloric effect have been studied. A close relationship is confirmed to hold between the Curie temperature and the oxygen stoichiometry. The maximum magnetic entropy change is in the order of 2.7 J/kg K and peaks at Curie temperature for La2/3Ba1/3MnO3 upon 10kOe applied field change. For the samples with oxygen deficiency, a reduction of the maximum magnetic entropy change has been observed. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
