This paper is devoted to the spectral solution of unsteady two-dimensional free-surface flows of a viscous fluid. The usual difficulty associated with the numerical calculation of such flows lies in the fact that the computational domain is not rectangular and. that its shape is an unknown which varies with time. These features are not easily accepted by spectral methods. However, the actual need of high accuracy in a number of physical problems connected with free-surfaces and more generally with interfaces makes valuable to produce an effort for the development of efficient spectral methods for the solution of such problems.
