Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influential factors of grain production in Jilin province and propose recommendations for stabilizing and improving grain production in Jilin province. Design/methodology/approach-This paper analyzes the historical variation of grain production in Jilin province with 1982-2010 statistical data on factors affecting grain production in Jilin province and the influential factors of grain production in Jilin province using factor analysis theory. Findings-Research results indicate that material input factors are the major factors affecting grain production in Jilin province, followed by policy factors, factors of science and technology progress and climatic factors. Originality/value-In order to ensure future food security in China, it is must to stabilize and improve grain production in Jilin province including to stabilize the grain area, strengthen the construction of water conservancy works, improve disaster prevention and mitigation and early warning systems for food security, focus on institutional innovation of agricultural organization and increase scientific and technological input.
