摘要
Weldability problems like crack sensitivity, porosity and degradation of heat affected zone are highlighted from the literature. Welding parameters of 2 mm thick Al-1.2Li-1.8Cu-1.0Mg-0.15Zr alloy sheets were optimised using tungsten inert gas, electron beam and resistance welding processes. Low weld efficiency of about 50% in the as welded condition of electron beam welding as compared to that of 70% in tungsten inert gas welding is attributed to loss of lithium during the former process and post weld beat treatment restored the same to 80% and 90% respectively. Resistance welding has given shear strength values well above the requirements.
