摘要：
The article aims to discuss the ways in which postcolonial epistemologies can be used to understand the contemporary religious phenomenon. As Joanildo Burity points, new approaches are needed to understand religion in a modern way. In this sense, the postcolonialist perspectives, when working from colonial criticism and the coloniality of power, provide us with the basic instruments to break with essential interpretations of religion and unveil the power relations contained within it.
