摘要：
A review on the phenomenon of second and third harmonic generation of intense laser beams in nonlinear optical media has been presented. Emphasis is put on explaining the basic physics of the phenomenon while minimizing the mathematics. Various phase matching techniques for the second harmonic generation also have been explained in detail. As a special case second harmonic generation in fourth state of matter i.e., plasma also has been discussed.
