Fish in the work of Dr. A.T. de Rochebrune (1833-1912)

The career of Dr. A. Tremeau de Rochebrune is recalled as well as his scientific work. Papers on Fish were published between 1880 and 1885, including 25 new specific names, all of them quoted by Eschmeyer (1998). For 13 species, de Rochebrune gave detailed descriptions and coloured figures. All, except one (Gobius casamancus de Rochebrune, 1880), are junior synonyms of well known species. For the 12 others, de Rochebrune gave only short diagnoses with neither description nor figure. and no type is extant. The taxonomic status of these species cannot be ascertained.
