摘要：
An overview of the history of the development of education in process systems engineering is given. It is argued that, to date, two complementary approaches have been pursued. Advances obtained in both directions are illustrated through examples taken from the literature, as well as through an account of the development of the process systems engineering components of the chemical engineering course at Imperial College.
