Rotational viscosity measurements of the nematic phase in a CsPFO/H2O lyotropic liquid crystal

The rotational viscosity, gamma(1), in the nematic phase of a 49.13/50.87 wt.% CsPFO\H2O-system was investigated by the rotational magnetic-field method. This sample showed Newtonian behavior for the selected angular speeds. The pretransitional effect on gamma(1) near the disk-like nematic N-L to lamellar phase transition was better understood with the mean-field model of McMillan, which predicted a critical exponent nu = 0.5 for the divergence of gamma(1), than with de Gennes' model.
