Flaw detection and sizing in masonry arch bridges

摘要
This paper describes the application of dynamic testing to the assessment of a brickwork arch bridge. An investigation procedure using impulsive force hammer excitation with frequency domain analysis techniques is proposed for the detection and sizing of voids in the bridge's soil backfill. Various sizes of void were formed at different positions around the extrados. The frequency response function amplitude proved to be the most reliable means of void detection, location, and approximate sizing.
